Lesson 1 of 3 · 4 min

Planning a calendar

You can see a month at once and spot the weeks with nothing in them.

The value of a calendar view is not the posts you can see. It is the gaps.

Steps

  1. Switch to a month view before you plan anything.
  2. Put the fixed things in first: launches, events, dates you cannot move.
  3. Fill the gaps around them rather than starting from day one.
  4. Look at the whole month and check it is not all one kind of post.

Planning around fixed points

Fixed dates anchor everything else. Content that supports a launch has to exist before the launch, and that is only obvious when you can see both at once.

What to watch for

A month where every post is a product post reads as relentless. Mix is easier to judge in a month view than a week view, which is the main reason to plan at that zoom.
