Lesson 3 of 3 · 3 min
Exporting a deck
The file that leaves the product is the one your audience can open.
Export is where a good deck becomes a support ticket if you pick the wrong format.
Steps
- Decide whether the recipient will read it or edit it.
- Readers get a fixed format that looks the same everywhere.
- Editors get an editable format, and expect small layout shifts.
- Open the exported file yourself before you send it.
The trade
A fixed format preserves your layout exactly and cannot be edited. An editable format can be changed by the recipient, and in exchange fonts and spacing may move on their machine.
What to watch for
Always open the export. It is the only way to catch a font substitution or a slide that reflowed, and it takes ten seconds.
