Connecting an external MCP
A tool we do not ship becomes something the assistant can use on your behalf.
If you rely on a tool that is not in the integrations list, and it exposes an MCP server, you can connect it and the assistant can use it like anything else.
Steps
- Get the server URL and any credential from the tool's own documentation.
- Add the connection and give it a name you will recognise later.
- Confirm the tools it exposes appear as available.
- Ask the assistant to do something small with it before relying on it.
What the assistant can do with it
Once connected, the tool's actions become things the assistant can call while working on your behalf, in the same way as built-in ones.
What to watch for
You are granting a third party's tool access through your workspace. Connect servers you trust and that you control, and treat the credential as you would any other. Start with the smallest permission that works.
